ABOUT US

Background

Albert, Righter & Tittmann Architects offers complete architectural services---
from master planning to design of buildings to construction observation---
for projects of many types and sizes. The experience of the partners spans several
decades and includes museums, schools, libraries and many houses, big and small.

Our partnership was founded on our shared backgrounds and interests. We all grew
up fascinated by art, language, history, and the way things work;  at Yale School of
Architecture we were guided by professors like Vincent Scully to study architecture
as an exhilarating and essential cultural enterprise.

Approach

Whether planning a campus or proportioning a room, our design approach is consis-
tent---we combine an experienced perspective with fresh insight, applying the lessons
gleaned from our travels and history. We are more interested in making good buildings
than in advancing architectural theories. We work to balance architecture's many
aspects---from making sure the furniture fits and keeping the rain out to inspiring joy.

For us, architecture is a delight and each new project an adventure. We particularly
enjoy the challenges presented by a broad range of projects and actively seek
opportunities to work on new building types. Some of our best work has been on
project types we are encountering for the first time. Our emphasis on the appro-
priateness of a design to its setting; on the craft of making buildings; and responsive
service is universally applicable.

We are aware of our place in a continuum of architectural thought and practice,
and are honored to contribute to it. We consider our colleagues to include architects
from many ages, and draw inspiration from buildings of every style, type, and period.
Our interest in history is complemented by our appetite for books, frequent
explorations of new places, and pilgrimages to favorite sites around the world.

We like to discern and interpret the needs and ideas---as well as the dreams and
aspirations---of our clients, rather than merely expressing our own notions. This takes
creative imagination, but first it takes a good ear. We like to listen, and encourage the
participation of our clients throughout the design process.
